Colombia has often been overlooked by travellers, but this is changing as the country's natural attractions begin to emerge as exotic destinations. Colombia is the only country in South America with coastlines on both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The cities of Santa Marta and Barranquilla are blessed with white sand and crystal blue water beaches, whilst Cartagena is considered the jewel of colonial era.

Dynamic cities, diverse attractions

The mid-western region; the Andean highlands is filled with dreamlike mountain landscapes with snow peaks, cool misty woods and fertile valleys, home to one of the world's most significant coffee routes. The central region is also home to some of the countries most well known cities; Bogota, Cali and Medellin, all of which boast a vibrant nightlife, an assortment of restaurants and cultural drawcards with their own distinct flavour.

The Southern Amazon region that connects with neighbouring Brazil and Peru boasts some of the most untouched natural rainforest in the continent and fascinating flora and fauna, and is a gateway to some unique ecolodges and river cruises.

Bogota, the capital of Colombia, is located over a plateau, at 2600 metres above sea level. Bogota is a modern and busy city.

The ancient area of the Candelaria neighborhood, that was built during the colonial period, still has beautiful architecture ,where you can visit the Quinta de Simon Bolivar, the Cathedral, and the Gold Museum and Botero Museum.

Hot, sultry, filled with the sounds of music and bright with color and tradition, Cartagena de Indias has been an important port on the Caribbean since it was founded in 1533. Gold and silver left the port bound for Europe, pirates looted the city, and a walled fort grew to protect both shipping and the slave trade. Cartagena still draws interest, but from tourists who come to enjoy the history, the sights, the weather and nightlife. Plan to stay several days, to enjoy the colonial period, the modern city and the fashionable seaside resort of Colombia's second port.

Cartagena's colonial charm and the old walled city, the Ciudad Amarullada, with tiled roofs, balconies and flower-filled courtyards, beckons visitors to stroll the narrow streets or to enjoy a weekend getaway.
